March 28th: I’m back!

Sayonara Meets Japan!

Just got home from my trip! I have so much to share, and now that I have a good internet connection and unlimited computer time, I’ll be doing some major updating. For now though, I need some sleep.

These are the tour members, along with staff and friends, who saw me off at Naha Airport. Thank you guys!!

Hi Amy,

I’ve really enjoyed your blog postings at the stops on your trip. You have a terrific eye for detail and a breezy writing style that captures the mood and the bigger picture of the sights you’re describing. Also, beautiful photographs- many of them are stunning.

Your rant towards the end was…interesting. I knew how you felt, and I think it was the result of being so exhausted and sleepless and post-asthmatic with a layer of exclusion on top of it all. On my three-week trip to Egypt I got like that once, too- I felt like I was a total stranger in a strange land, and convinced myself that I hated the trip, the language, the two Canadians I was with, and EGYPT. I later read that this is not an unusual reaction for people to have after a week or so in strange circumstances.

I was greatly relieved to see how quickly you got over it- you are a sensitive soul, but you’re very resilient and forgiving, and those are rare, valuable qualities. I think that the trip is something that’ll matter to you for the rest of your life, and that you’ll find yourself returning to it in your mind as a point-of-reference in future times, and that the personal value of the trip will increase with time.

Thanks for sharing the many good parts and the odd down-times. Be proud of yourself for doing it in the first place and for seeing it through, and for making it so vivid for your readers. Thanks, daughter,

Babs
