To Know Tokyo Is To Love Tokyo - Edo-Tokyo Museum

Hanging around Tokyo, you will be able to find out lots of historical sites and objects, especially from Tokugawa Shogunate. Yet, there are no other sites with all those collection of artifacts than Edo-Tokyo Museum. It is just a museum with a lot of artifacts. Thus, you may not be able to feel the actual atmosphere from people chatting, shopping or arguing. However, it is still a good chance to understand old lifestyle throughout having an observation of the artifacts.

Edo-Tokyo Museum is located in Ryogoku, right next to Kokugikan where sumo tournament is held. In addition to their permanent exhibition, the museum often holds seasonal exhibitions. Some are related to Edo or Old Tokyo while others have no such relationships. In order to see them, you have to pay the extra fee. You should take a look at the website below beforehand, and make sure if you are interested in those exhibitions;

Other than the exhibitions, they have a library with a collection of books and articles related to historical figures and artifacts from Tokyo. On another floor, there are a collection of Tokyo-related movies. They even store some movies with English subtitles. Throughout watching the movies, you can find it more interesting to study about Tokyo. In the meantime, the museum holds a traditional comedy shows on weekends. Even if you do not understand what they are talking about, you can still feel the atmosphere of the shows as well as communication between the performers and audience.
