Tsuyu

Tsuyu season is coming. It keeps raining for nearly a month and a half. That is the period people constantly make complaints. It gets very humid while the temperature increases day by day. The sky gets dark so that they sometimes feel depressed. In the meantime, it is an important season for nature to maintain its water cycle.

Okinawa enters tsuyu season in early May while it starts in the middle of June in the north. The Baiu front created by two high pressures stays across Japan so that rain constantly falls. Japan Meteorological Agency makes the declaration of tsuyu when it starts and ends. The dates vary slightly each year while it has the constant period.

Kanji for tsuyu literally means plum rain because the fruit gets ripened in this season. Although people hate to be under heavy rain, it is an extremely important season. The amount of rain affects the amount of crops in fall, especially rice. If it has less rainfall than the average, people suffer from drought and are required to save water. On the other hand, if it rains too much, they might suffer from flood. Therefore, tsuyu affects the Japanese life so much.

Humidity in this period causes some simple problems in your life. You should make some attempt to maintain your clothes in order to avoid mold. Also, you should store fresh foods in the fridge properly, and consume as soon as you can. It is the season many people suffer from food poisoning. On the other hand, while tsuyu causes some troubles, you can enjoy watching some flowers such as hydrangea coming out in this particular season. As you tend to spend your time inside, you should really keep yourself fresh somehow.
