Secret of Hakata Bijin(Beauty), in celebratinon of Miss Universe 2007

In celebration of Miss Universe 2007, that a Japanese lady Riyo Mori was crowned, I’d like to write something about beauty affairs in Japan.

Throughout Japan, women in Fukuoka have a special reputation for being very beautiful.
We even have a traditional term `Hakata Bijin‘ for them.

You can see them especially in the evening, in Tenjin city center area (and maybe Nakasu, entertainment spot).

They are not just beautiful, stunningly beautiful, with perfect look and fashion just like models.

They are extremely beauty-conscious, spending a lot on cosmetic and fashion, because Fukuoka has a small number of men, which means a keen competition for girls!

You’ll realise it’s true, If you glance at the city full of women groups.

To meet their demand, there are so many fashion and cosmetic shops in Tenjin City centre.

Though I am not born or bred in Fukuoka, trying to follow them a bit, I went to a cosmetic shop in Tenjin.

(Most cosmetic shops in Japan are on the ground floor of department stores, and Tenjin has three large department stores, Mitsukoshi, Iwataya, and Daimaru).

Tenjin is a city center of Fukuoka, and is a Beauty Mecca !

Each brand has skillful (and beautiful) advisers, to give us a make up lesson, to make the most of each customer’s charm.

What’s special about Tenjin is, it’s not too big, not too busy, so they take plenty of time for each person.

But be careful, it is busy on weekends, since many people from neighbour prefectures come and join !

Women are very willing and serious to improve their make up skill.

Not only about the makeup, they seem to know good health (especially mental !) is the base of beauty, since they have such attractive smile, which actually cheering up the city.

I visited many places in japan and I’m pretty sure that Fukuoka has the largest number of smiling people !

Among many cosmetic brands, Shiseido and Shu Uemura are especially popular among foreign visitors to Japan.

So why don’t you join beauty lesson in Fukuoka ?!

I have always thought that women from Hokkaido were very pretty. But then again, I have never been to Japan. So if I do make it for the trip to Japan this July, then I'm sure to open my eyes wide and observe!

In Japan women born and bred in moist climate are said to be beautiful for their snow like skin, and I 'm sure women from Hokkaido have that. Please enjoy your time in Japan !
