Furusato Antenna Shops; you can find Local Food of all over Japan in Tokyo !

shops

Furusato antenna shop (furusato means hometown) is where you can find variety of local products, mainly food and drinks, in one particular shop.
The mecca of antenna shops is Kotsu Kaikan Building in front of Yurakucho station, (near Ginza), Tokyo.

Out of 15 Antenna Shops in this area, I especially recommend `Hokkaido Dosanko Plaza’.

(Hokkaido is the northern island of Japan, blessed with high quality agricultural products, especially milk, cheese, yogurt, potato, melon, and seafood!)

To get there,

yurakucho01

You get off at Yurakucho Station (JR line), and go through Ginza-exit or Chuo-exit, turn left.

Now you find a large unique building with a spherical dome on the top, which is Kotsu Kaikan Building (the 9th floor is well known to have a Tourists Information Center `TIC’).

This is it. You enter the first floor, and find `Hokkaido Dosanko Floor’.

All the time crowded!
Inside you can find all kinds of Hokkaido local food, such as seefood,

and also sweets including Yubari melon softcream, Royce potato chip chocolate (the most popular sweet ), milk, yogurt, Furano cheese-cakes, and…

Pudding!

dosanko03

This is the second popular products called `Bokka no Pudding (meaning, idyllic pudding)’, and only 30 are available each day.

It’s creamy and very sweet !

Other than Hokkaido Dosanko Plaza, there are 14 more Furusato Antenna Shops in Yurakucho (Ginza) area.
Now you can taste the food from all over Japan, staying in Tokyo !

Japanese people and food culture

Let me note that Japan has 42 prefectures, each of which has its own unique food culture. Lots of Japanese people put great importance on food when they travel. Now Furusato Antenna Shops offer easy food experience without traveling.

Furusato Antenna Shop is also called Chiho Bussan Kan, meaning Local Food Shop.
