Will You Marry Me? Will YOU Marry Me?

There was that hapless missionary who prayed to the Turtle in Heaven that I wrote about.

He had other problems, too.

He thought to himself that he would show some initiative, find a captive audience, pass out tracts, get people to come to church, save the world.

Where are people going to go once they are on a train and it starts moving?

On the train the missionary started trying to pass out his propaganda. To his disappointment, NOBODY would accept the offer of his handout.

When he returned home he asked a veteran why there was so little response to his efforts.

“What’d you say to them?”religious.tract.jpg

o-yome ni natte kudasai.”Laughter followed.

The polite phrase for asking someone to read – “O-yomi ni natte kudasai.”

What the missionary rookie had been asking – “Would you marry me, please? Would YOU marry me, please?”

No wonder he didn’t get any takers.
