Chionin(Kyoto)“Kodaman’s J-TRIP”

Chionin(知恩院)is the head temple of “Jyodo shu” which is a cult of Buddhism. The gate of this temple is one of three greatest and biggest gates(Nanzen ji temple,Ninna ji temple and Chionin) in Kyoto. Literally, the name of Chionin is 知(Knowing)+恩(Obligation). There are many important cultural properties here but some places are prohibited to get in. It is told that there are 7 wonders of Chion in. Finding and thinking why it is told so is also interesting. We went there on foot from Nanzen temple and it was not far. Going to Kiyomizu temple is a bit far. Our theme of this trip was to see “three biggest gate. ” Therefore, we were so excited at seeing this gate. Don’t you think this is very gorgeous?

When one goes to main temle of Chionin, some people might seat in front of Budda and say “Na Mu A Mi Da Bu Tsu.” which is the word for praying at any temple of “Jyodo shu”.
