UDX Anime Center
Anime – the very mention of it to many who frequent Akihabara leads to drooling and excitement on a scale some might
deem dangerous.
To then enter a shop and see it all around, floor to ceiling, wall to wall and, in some cases – ON the ceiling and
even the floor could cause some consternation in those not quite used to the passion for all and anything anime
related seen in Japan.
So, whilst the obvious destination for those chasing things anime would be the Akihabara district of Tokyo – sometimes
nicknamed Electric Town – digging a little deeper in the streets and high rises of this high tech corner of the city
will reveal a niche well worth exploring for anyone, of any age and either sex interested in the world of anime and
how anime are produced.
This is, quite simply the UDX (Building) based Anime Center – on the second floor of the building when approached
from the huge escalators linking it with the JR station – and then on said 2F – on the left.
Not massive, but reasonably sized, the Anime Center is home to around a dozen lifesize anime characters (some pictured),
exhibits going over the step by step process of production methods used over the decades, and an impressively stocked,
if somewhat small shop at the rear that should be on the ’shops to see’ list of all anime fans – and, for reasons
only they will know, fans of the (currently named) Yakult Swallows baseball team.
Get along and enjoy – accessed best via JR Akihabara Station on the Sobu, Yamanote and Keihin Tohoku lines
