Kitty Kool
To either be visiting or living in Japan and not know the name ‘Hello Kitty’ is unthinkable.
Kitty, as she is often abbreviated is a feline anime character popular now throughout the world with the female of the species and has appeared in so many guises as to prove futile and realistic attempt to fully document her career in CV form.
At times she has caused controversy – think the time Japan suggested Kitty be the official United Nations mascot representing womankind; a nice idea perhaps until you consider Kitty has no mouth, and thus no voice.
At other times, Kitty has proven a tad mysterious – few Japanese being aware that she actually ‘lives’ in London according to her official ‘management company’ that produce the goodies that make them millions.
Hobbies include travel and eating delicious cookies, although just why London was chosen remains a mystery.
Of course there is then her birthday – November 1st – and the fact that Kitty in blue as most people see the non-pink version is actually her twin sister / twin kitty – named Mimi!
Go figure, get wrapped up in it all and don’t forget to take away a few Kittyesque souvenirs the next time you hit the stores in Japan.
