You do not believe it is a part of Tokyo. Okutama is located in the westernmost part of Tokyo. Unlike the central Tokyo, it is thoroughly surrounded by the nature. Taking a train for about two hours from Shinjuku, you will get to a good site to release your stress.

Okutama has nice attractions which you do not find in the central Tokyo. They are all nature-oriented. First of all, there are hot springs. Usually hot springs are believed to have certain effects on your health so as those in Okutama. Taking hot spring can relieve your pain on your body as well as your exhaustion. Hot springs are located inside ryokans, but you can take it if you pay about 1,000 yen.

You can also try some outdoor activities. There are a lot of rivers and lakes in this area, and you can fish there. Unlike those in central Tokyo, you can enjoy fishing in the quiet area although you might have to pay certain fee to enter. In addition, you can try trekking here since it is surrounded by mountains. There are a lot of courses built along the mountains. You can try a daytrip, or stay at one of cabins built for free use. On top of the mountains, you may be able to watch Mt. Fuji if the sky is clear.

There are a lot of hotels and restaurants near Okutama Station. Although they are generally a little more expensive than central Tokyo, you can surely enjoy the atmosphere and eat a lot of fresh foods.

For any activities, you can ask tourist information at Okutama Station. Otherwise, you can make sure whatever you do by calling them beforehand. They should be able to assist you in anyways.
