I am not good at “Motsu nabe” .When I had eaten it once in Tokyo, it was so stinking! But Poporo’s “Motsu Nabe” was great and not stinking . The reason why it’s great is maybe they use only small intestines. I don’t know exactly but anyway it’s good and I could eat!

Before going to eat Hitsumabushi(Unagi don), I went to Nagoya castle. It was the end of November, “kouyou”was very beautiful and colorful.　This castle is the one of the three greatest castles in Japan(others are Oosaka and Kumamoto castle).
[History]It’s said that this castle was built in 1525. Around this castle, there was used to be Nagoya castle(Same sound but different Kanji) where “Oda Nobunaga” was born. For tourists, two tiger-heads fishes on the top of the castle are good points to check out. There is much information on wikipedia .[Accsess]Pleass take “Higashiyama-Line( go to Fujigaoka)” then changed to “Meijyo-Line” form “Higashiyama-line” at Sakae station. Finally get off at “Shiyakusho station”. It must take less than 20 min from Nagoya station to Nagoya castle.
[Fee] ¥500
Because we had couple of time to spend before eating “Hitsumabushi” in “Horai ken”(most of time needing reservation ), we dicided to go to here. It took 20 min from “Hourai-ken” by car. There is a huge park a lot around Nagoya castle. The photo below was a kind of joke but it’s the good memory for our family. (There are a lot of places in which we can take this kind of photo in JAPAN) Now, we are interested in collecting these kind of photos in trip.

“Hitsumabushi” is actually a kind of “Unagi don(Eel rice bowl)” .However, because the way of grill is different from its in other city. Usually “unagi don” is 2 pieces of broiled eels on the top of rice, but “Hitsumabushi” is cut eels in 1cm each.

The way of eating is very interesting for me. First, we cut “Hitsumabushi” 4 part like +.

1.Eat first part normally!

2. Eat second one with sesonings(such as “Wasabi” and “Seeweed” )

3.Eat Third one after pouring the broth (with seasonings must be great!)

4.Eat the last one the way of what we like the best (1,2 or 3)

In Nagoya, there are many “Hitsumabushi” restaurants but one of the most famous restaurant is “Hourai-ken“. Here is very crowded. So first we went there and they told us what time we had to come back. Then, when we went there on time, we didn’t need to wait more than 10min. The taste was different from others and very good. The atmosphere was nostalgic.

Here is located near “Atsuta shrine.” If one comes to here and have to wait for 1 hour or more, going Atsuta shrine(5min on foot) or Nagoya castle(20min by taxi) must be great idea. We actually went to Nagoya Castle.
